If you aren't a seasoned content writer, you might think that it's an easy job. Lots of people think it's so easy, that they would rather just have AI do the writing for them, but nothing quite beats the feel of a human voice in the letters.

But I digress... we aren't here to mewl about the negatives of AI. Rather, we are here to help the natural, human content writers who are struggling with writer's block right now. Funnily enough, this article was inspired by my own writer's block. I have been sitting at my computer for days trying to work out what to write about next, and finally, it hit me.

As a content writer, there are going to come times when you don't know what to write about. Writers and creatives of all kinds have this issue. If you want to stay relevant in the field of content writing, it is important to learn about what sort of topics are trending. This will make your own articles and pieces easier to find, and you're more likely to get better engagement.

So, if you're like me and writer's block has come for you, let's go over some of the top content writing trends and topics of 2023. Hopefully, some of these will give you some inspiration so you can get those fingers moving again!

AI-Driven Content

I'm starting with this one just so we can get it out of the way. AI-driven content is a hot topic at the moment. You will find lots of people who are very against it, but there are just as many who seem to be for it too.

Chatbot services such as the infamous ChatGPT and its many abilities are a huge reason why so many people have turned to AI-based content, and there is a lot you can write about this trend. You can talk about its pros and cons, why it's useful, or even throw in your two cents about it taking jobs from humans.

The Evolution of Influencers

Influencers have been a huge part of what makes up social media and platforms such as Instagram and TikTok for a very long time now. Lots of people actually quit their day jobs and turn to social media influencing full-time, and it's no surprise when you can actually make decent money out of it.

But the way Influencer marketing and content creation works is changing. Lots of content and marketing specialists and forecasters have already said that 'the way social media influencers are is dying'. Smaller creators are getting better reception than those with larger fanbases, and while the status quo hasn't completely changed yet, you can definitely sense that a new way of influencing is on the rise.

It's All About Finding A Niche

'Niche Content Writing' is probably a phrase you have come across during your time as a content writer. If you don't know what it is though, it is basically content that is tailored and written about specific things. So if you're a company that specializes in gardening, a niche topic within that would be something like 'landscaping' or 'flowers'.

Readers prefer content that is more personal. When your readers can more heavily identify with the content you are pushing out, you will find that more of your content is gaining a following. If you are new to content writing, try finding a niche that works for you. Something that you are really passionate about and something that is very specific can really help when it comes to your engagement!

Long-Form Content

Sure, people really love short-form content, but it might surprise you to learn that when it comes to content writing, long-form content is ultimately going to do much better.

It is fantastic for Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and when someone does stumble onto your work and is genuinely interested in what you are talking about, they want as much relevant information as possible!

We might think that the average attention span of consumers is shrinking, but this is why we should never underestimate our readers and consumers. When someone is really into a niche or topic, they want to digest as much of it as they can.

Personalization Is What It's All About

Let's get real- there is a ridiculous amount of content out there in this day and age. Because there is so much for consumers to choose from, you think it would be a benefit, but that isn't necessarily the case.

The unlimited and saturated amount of content actually makes readers and consumers a lot more picky about what they want. So, if you aren't tailoring your content to fit your readers, they will get bored and they will stop engaging.

When you keep your content personalized to your average readers, it shows that you actually care about what they want. People love personalization, they love things that are relatable, and you can very easily reflect those values in your writing.

This can be anything from your chosen tone of voice, to your niche, to the way you lay your writing out.

Final Thoughts

There are plenty of trends to look into when it comes to content writing. We always want to write about what we are passionate about, but it is also important to make sure that you are writing things that others want to read about too.

These are just some of the trends that are currently popular this year, but like the rest of the internet, they will change over time.

If you are suffering from writer's block at the moment, take a deeper dive into some of these topics and trends and see if you can write something catchy and engaging about them for yourself!
